Beaches of Cyprus

Agia Triada, Protaras

Starting at the northern most end of Protaras strip Agia Triada is the first bay you come to. There is a little harbour with fishing boats and a small chapel.

Protaras

This resort boasts the best beaches in Cyprus, with golden sands and crystal clear water. Ideal for sun loungers and water sports. Very nice beaches around Protaras are Mouzoura Beach and Pernera in the east and Konnos Bay in the west.

Limanaki Beach, Ayia Napa

The most convenient for this resort, Limanaki Beach lies on the east bay of the harbour. It’s divided into two sections, Pethamenia and Kryo Nero, ending at the Thalassines Spilies (Sea Caves).

Nissi Beach

The best of a cluster of excellent, but usually busy beaches of Ayia Napa. Easily reachable by bus, Nissi has good water sports and other facilities.

Makronisos Beach

The last in the chain of beaches lying west of Ayia Napa, Makronisos Beach has similar facilities to the others but with the added attraction of an excavated warren of ancient Greek and Roman tombs which are permanently open.

Larnaca & Limassol

The beaches in Larnaca and Limassol are mostly pebbly, narrow and/or with dark sands, so the locals tend to venture out of the cities to find a nice swimming spot. Top tip: Cyprus allows tourists to use any of the hotel beaches on the island, whether you are staying or not, so don’t worry about the lack of amenities on the beaches themselves.

Governor’s Beach

Right on the district border, 29 km east of Limassol. There is a single daily bus service from Limassol, leaving the port at 09.50 am and passing all the major hotels. There are several caves with fine dark sand and a few taverns offering refreshment.

Lady’s Mile Beach

To the west of Limassol, this is the nearest end most convenient and popular beach. On summer weekends the 7 km sandy stretch beach is packed with tourists and Cypriots enjoying the shallow waters and sunshine. The southern end is the most fashionable with good taverns and cafes on the beach.

Kourion Beach

The long sandy/pebbly beach is good for swimming and enjoying lunch in one of the three large taverns. You could also combine it with a trip to the ancient archaeological site of the same name. The beach is 17 km west of Limassol, served by public transport.

Paphos

Paphos itself has small, man made sandy caves near the main hotels. Some longer stretches of sand and pebble beach can be found along the coast just a short drive away, which are ideal for sunbathing and relaxing. Some of those closest to the centre of Paphos are: Floria Beach at Time Village, CTO Beach below Yeroskipou and Coral Bay about 10 km from Paphos.

Polis

The clean beaches around Polis are a mixture of pebbles and sand, most of them with small taverns. The best beach in Polis itself is right by the campsite, backed by eucalyptus groves.
